Short Bio

Renato Lo Cigno is Associate Professor at the Telecommunications and Computer Science Department (DIT - Dipartimento di Informatica e Telecomunicazioni) of the University of Trento, in Italy, teaching courses and doing research in the field of Computer and Telecommunication Networks

Until November 2002 he was with Politecnico di Torino, old information can be found on his former web page there.

He was born in Ivrea, Italy, in 1963. He graduated from the Politecnico di Torino with a degree in Electronic Engineering in July 1988.

Starting October 1988 to December 1990, he worked as a professional consultant for the Department of Electronics of Politecnico di Torino, as well as for other industries of the informatic and telecommunication sectors. During this period he was also awarded a one year research grant from CNR, (Centro Nazionale delle Ricerche), the Italian National Research Council.

From January 1991 to January 2001 he served as Research Engineer at the Electronics Department of Politecnico di Torino, partecitating in research projects and activities of the telecommunications research group.

From june 1998 to february 1999 he spent a sabbatical period as a visiting scholar at the Computer Science Department of UCLA under CNR grant No.\ 203.15.8.

Starting November 2002 he is with the University of Trento, Faculty of Science, as tenured Associate Professor in Telecommunication Networks and Computer Science.

He participated in several National and European projects such as MQOS (QoS Techniques in Multiservice Telecommunication Networks), COST 242 and 247, Copernicus ATMIN and IST helinet. Presently he is involved in the management of the PLANET-IP (PLAnning IP NETworks) project. He is also involved in several consulting and research project with private industries, including NEC, Omnitel and TILAB.

He has co-authored over 90 papers published in international journals and presented in leading international conferences, all of them in the area of telecommunication networks.

In the years 2001 and 2002 Renato Lo Cigno was the scientific director of INLAB a research lab on Integrated Telecommunication Networks born out of a cooperation between the Electronics Dep. of Politecnico and CSP.
